Sun Lakes Democratic Club Meeting to Feature Legislative and County Candidates

Candidates running for the Arizona House and Senate, along with Maricopa County positions, will highlight the Sun Lakes Democratic Club’s July 8 meeting at Sun Lakes Country Club.

Candidates vying for county spots include Tyler Kamp running for Maricopa County Sheriff. Kamp’s two-decade-plus tenure at the Phoenix Police Department included positions as Shift Commander, Gang Enforcement Sergeant, and Homicide Detective, along with time in Ghana and West Africa spent fighting human trafficking. He is running in the July 30 primary to be the Democratic candidate for Sheriff.

Rounding out the county candidates is Dr. Laura Metcalfe, Democratic candidate for Maricopa County Superintendent of Public Schools. Dr. Metcalfe has over 20 years in education in both the classroom and in administration. She is currently a board member for the East Valley Institute of Technology. Dr. Metcalfe has a BA from ASU and a master’s and doctorate in education from Northern Arizona University.

Candidates for the Arizona legislature include Sharon Winters, Democratic candidate for Arizona Senate, LD 13. Ms. Winters, a retired teacher, will address why she is running for office. With degrees from Illinois State University and the University of Texas, she will discuss her platform on women’s rights, voter rights, and public education.

Democrats running for the two house seats in LD 13 are Brandy Reese and Nicholas Gonzales. Reese, a forensic scientist, is a graduate of Oklahoma University and a resident of Chandler. She will discuss her platform, which includes public education and women’s rights. Gonzales, a graduate of Chandler High School and ASU, grew up in Chandler and is now an urban planner and business owner in Chandler. His platform includes women’s reproductive rights, public education, and affordable housing.

The Sun Lakes Democratic Club is made up of like-minded individuals who are part of over 2,500 registered Democrats throughout the Sun Lakes area promoting an Arizona that works for everyone. We invite you to join us at 6:30 p.m. for a social hour, with the meeting starting at 7 p.m., on July 8 in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club located at 25601 E. Sun Lakes Blvd. N, Sun Lakes.

If you’re unable to attend our regular club meeting, then join us at 10 a.m. for our First Friday Coffee the first Friday of every month at Kneaders Bakery on West Queen Creek Road in Chandler. Good coffee, good treats, and even better conversations.
