Our first Garden Club meeting will be Friday morning, Nov. 12, at 9 a.m. in the east ballroom. We have fun activities planned for the year and invite you to join us. No gardening experience required! Our club’s purpose is to assist in the beautification of SunBird Golf Resort and to learn about desert gardening through programs and activities. We meet on the second Friday of the month. Annual dues are $10, and our Christmas brunch is $10, so please bring $20 to the first meeting.
Our first meeting will be a hands-on opportunity to learn how to propagate desert plants. Barb Ott will provide a lively demonstration, and after the meeting, we will adjourn to the patio to try our hand at propagating and transplanting. We will provide the plants, soil, and containers. Just bring some gardening gloves if you want to join the fun. If you have extra containers that you aren’t using, please bring those as well.
Our annual plant sale will take place twice this fall. We will have plants for sale during the community-wide garage sale on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 6641 S. Championship Drive. If Garden Club members have plants to donate for the sale, please bring them to 6641 S. Championship Drive no later than Friday, Oct. 29. All money will be used to maintain and improve existing gardens in SunBird.
We will also have plants for sale at SunBird’s Community Day held outside the ballroom on Nov. 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Mark your calendars now for the Garden Club’s annual Home Tour, which will be held Sunday, March 13, 2022. This is our major fundraiser of the year. This year’s tour will be the Donna Bergmann Memorial Home Tour, in honor of our dear friend and Garden Club member Donna Bergmann. Again, all proceeds go to maintain and improve the gardens of SunBird.
