Cindy Stohn Will Speak at Desert Threads Quilters’ February 9 Meeting

Katy Clements shows a very special long Christmas stocking, one of a pair she made. Behind her is Diana Jones’ quilt made from blocks obtained in a Christmas block exchange.

Cindy Stohn is an accomplished, award-winning, long-arm quilter. She will speak about her approach to the creative process and bring a sampling of her work. Cindy has won awards at Houston International Quilt Festival, Mancuso Shows, Arizona Quilt Guild, and Road to California.

The Desert Threads’ program for March 9 is a “Quilt University” at which four accomplished quilters will show different techniques. The demos will be about English paper piecing, common paper piecing, a one-half square triangle technique, and turned edge applique with stabilizer technique. Members will be able to circulate from one demonstration to another.

The Arizona Quilters Guild Quilt Show is rapidly approaching: March 24 to 26 at Mesa Convention Center in Downtown Mesa. Hours are Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Admission is $10 for AQG members and $15 for non-members.

We invite anyone interested in quilting (any aspect, even just appreciation of quilting) to attend our monthly meetings on the second Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., in the Ceramics Room (A-8) in the Cottonwood at Sun Lakes clubhouse complex. We have frequent “Sew Days” when members gather to work on projects together. Desert Threads is a chapter of the Arizona Quilters Guild which offers many free virtual lectures and low-cost classes on a variety of quilting topics. Accomplished and well-known teachers from around the world have classes available for members. For more info, see www.arizonaquiltersguild.org or send email to [email protected].
