February Men’s Club Newsletter

Scott Moore

The first 2022 Men’s Club meeting was held on Jan. 4. The meeting was well attended, and it was a good morning to socialize and warm up with some coffee and donuts, as there was a frost delay on the course. Thanks to Ken Cross for making the monthly donut run and to Joe Turley for brewing the coffee!

After enjoying his own coffee and donut(s) (maybe that other one was Gordon’s—I’m not sure), President Dean Huyghebaert started the meeting. Below are the more notable items discussed:

1. Treasurer Patrick Leach gave the monthly financial report. Patrick has us pretty much “high and tight” financially right now—in other words, right on track.

2. Jack Cooper discussed the upcoming 2nd Annual Riggs Road Cup tournament between SunBird and Springfield. The dates are March 16 at Springfield and March 24 at SunBird. This is available to the first 20 or so members who sign up. See the sign-up board or Jack Cooper for details.

3. Fred Garmeson updated the Men’s’ Club membership numbers. There are currently 137 paid members and another 15 from last year who have not yet paid. One new member, Bruno Cyzowski, was introduced at the meeting. A big Welcome to you, Bruno!

4. The Men’s Club play schedule is posted outside the Pro Shop. The Couples Gross Shootout is scheduled for March 11, and the year-end Combined Men’s/Ladies Step Aside is scheduled for March 25.

The one topic that garnered lively discussion regarded the Thursday Men’s Club tee times. The historical 8 a.m. (9 a.m. winter) tee times were moved to later in the mornings back in December to see if more golfers would sign up for Thursday Men’s Club play. This issue is going to be reviewed again at the end of January.

Sandbaggers Roll Call: I’d like to report some names that are shooting incredible Net scores on Thursdays, but everyone seems to not want to be on this Sandbagger Roll Call, so I will just have to acknowledge the good and fair golfers this month. Dale Stokke is back now, so he is winning Gross, being chased by Bob Lama and Bob Gerber, and Net scores are coming in at about handicaps, including Bob Lama, Stokke, and Steve Seel.

Hey, we have 137 paid Men’s Club members. Sign up for Thursday play and take your shots at winning $100 each time you record a hole-in-one. Figure you get seven shots a round, and even more if you are a big hitter. There’s $700 in the pot. Get your ace(s) before the pot dries up!

The next scheduled meeting is Feb. 1 at 9 a.m. in the ballroom. Hope to see you there!
