The SunBird Men’s Club had its first 2025 meeting on Jan. 7. Jack Cooper sat us all down from the coffee and donut station, and things started rolling. Our VP James Morgan has been working to fill one open Men’s Club board position for the 2025-26 season. Please consider volunteering for this and speaking to James for more information.
Patrick gave the monthly Treasurer’s Report, another precise, accurate, down-to-the-penny account of our club’s income and expenses for the month. I have marveled at Patrick over the years and how he keeps track and reports all this. I wonder, though, might he be using an AI (Artificial Intelligence) program?
Fred Garmeson spoke to the group about the GHIN system and posting scores. If you play a round of golf at SunBird or any other course, you should, and need to, post your scores. Should an incorrect score be posted or a score get double posted, Fred is the person to contact to adjust things.
Dave White discussed two rules of golf at the meeting: Rule #4 and Rule #6. Rule #4 refers to lead weights on golf clubs. Lead weight or lead tape can be added or removed from a club before or after a round of golf but not during a round. The same goes for removable weights. Rule #6 regards the pace of play in stroke play matches. For SunBird, this would mean we should all play “ready golf” to help speed up the pace of play. Although not a SunBird rule, Dave suggested that once you start putting on the green, each person could putt “all the way out” until they are in the hole.
Our Shootout tournaments are coming up. These are great ones for non-golfers in the community to walk along and watch some of your neighbors and fellow community members participate against each other. There will be free refreshments and snacks at various holes, and you can bet if you like. Those dates are as follows:
Feb. 7 at 2 p.m.: Couples Net Shootout Tournament
March 14 at 2 p.m.: Couples Gross Shootout Tournament
The big bit of new business came for Mr. Cooper. He is rolling out the Golf Genius online weekly sign-up for Thursday Men’s play starting Jan. 16. Hopefully, by the time this article comes out, we will all be pros at signing up online without our wives’ help (thanks, Don)!
Also, once in a great while I get to report on a hole-in-one occurrence during Thursday Men’s play! Although it will be old news by the time of this printing, Mr. Bob Morris recorded an ace on Dec. 19 on hole number 11 with his trusty gap wedge. Congratulations, Bob! Word is that you are one club short in the bag now, as that wedge is hanging in a frame with the ball over your TV.
Hope to see you at the next meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 9 a.m.
