Here comes summer!

As the weather starts to get warmer the golf course will make some changes to their start times. Pro Shop hours will be from 6:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; golf starts at 7:00 a.m.

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Friday: Tee times starting at 7:00 a.m.; Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday: 7:00 a.m. shotgun and tee times starting at 11:00 a.m.

In the past the Pro Shop has closed down during the summer at noon. Well, this year we are staying open until 5:00 p.m. daily. What this means for you is summertime specials: special rates, junior rates, a new Sundowner League forming on Tuesday night for nine holes of golf and food specials. If you have some friends or a group that would like to come out and play or if you might want to form your own league/group please contact Dave Jones in the Pro Shop for details.

Our next tournament will be July 4; cost is $35 per person and signup sheets will be available online or in the Pro Shop. It will be a four person scramble at 7:00 a.m. with a shotgun start and lunch to follow.

We would like to thank everyone that attended our monthly tours and golf lessons. We hope we were able to shed a little light on our operations and maybe light the spark you had for an interest in golf. The tours and lessons will continue next fall when we return to season. The golf course will be closed for over seeding starting September 26 and reopen for play on October 17.

SunBird Golf Club would like to thank the Kare Bears and the Bandits for their kind donations from the proceeds of their annual golf tournaments. If you would like to play in these tournaments next year signup sheets will be available in the Pro Shop.

We would like to wish Rick Lantgen good luck in his new position at Decordova Bend Estates in Texas. He spent many years at SunBird Golf Club and now brings his talents to a new venue. Good luck, Rick! Marc Francoeur is the new golf course Superintendent and we look forward to a good future as he takes care of our golf course.

We would also like to thank the following members that have donated their membership certificates back to the golf club. These gifts help alleviate the club’s expenses from redeeming them back in the future:

Thank you George Connell, Gerry and Marion Patterson, John and BJ Schermerhorn, Mary Lou Trautmann, Gloria Silcox, Carol Chapman, Fred Erdman and Al Curtis.

Come see us during the summer and check out the new hours; after you’re done playing just think how refreshing a nice dip in the pool will feel.
