Health and Safety—Top Priority at Phoenix Sky Harbor

David J. Ramirez, Public Information Officer, Public Relations Office, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport

The COVID-19 pandemic has altered daily life across the globe, and Phoenix Sky Harbor has implemented several safety measures throughout the airport to better your air travel experience and earned national recognition along the way.

America’s Friendliest Airport® continues to maintain a thorough 24-hour cleaning schedule, such as increasing the number of times per day high-touch areas are sanitized.

A sample of many other measures include:

• Installing personal protective equipment (PPE) vending machines pre-security areas in both terminals

• Installing appropriate physical distance markers throughout the airport

• Installing hand sanitizer dispensers for both customers and employees

• Installing plexiglass at Information counters

• And safety signage/messaging can be found at entryways, on the PHX Sky Train®, on the Rental Car Center buses and airport website.

Phoenix Sky Harbor was accredited by Airports Council International (ACI) for providing a safe airport experience for all travelers.

For this ACI Health Accreditation, the airport was evaluated in several areas, including: cleaning and disinfection, cleaning products used, staff training, ventilation and air flow, hand sanitizer availability, the use of touchless technology, barriers between customers and employees, and more. The airport also received the Global Biorisk Advisory Council STAR Accreditation (GBAC Star™) for its focus on health and sanitation.

Phoenix Sky Harbor is one of the few airports in the country to have both accreditations.

In addition, XpresCheck, which is located pre-security on Level 3 of Terminal 4, offers COVID-19 testing at Phoenix Sky Harbor. Its on-site testing includes a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test and a Blood Antibody test.

XpresCheck is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Interested individuals can schedule their appointments in advance at Xprescheck.com or visit as a walk-in.
