If you have done even a minimal amount of research on what chemicals are in cleaning products, you’ll find ingredients that are harmful to you and your family.
Making your own cleaning supplies using essential oils gives you a natural way to keep your home healthy and clean. Not only that, some of these essential oils will help with your spring allergies, such as hay fever, while you clean. Many spring allergies occur when a plant you are allergic to blossoms. This can cause nasal congestion, runny and/or itchy nose, sneezing, and coughing. The same properties in essential oils that help relieve these symptoms can be used for cleaning, too.
You could make a steam with essential oils by boiling water, adding the oil, and draping a towel over as you lean over the pan of water, breathing in the steam for 5 to 10 minutes. Don’t get too close to avoid burning yourself. After you’re done, use the pan of water with the essential oils for cleaning.
To use a spray bottle for cleaning, get a 16-oz. bottle and pour in 1/4 cup white vinegar. Open your bottle of essential oil(s) and take a whiff before adding about 30 drops. Fill the bottle the rest of the way with water and start cleaning. You’ll breathe in the aroma as you get work done.
There are five great oils to use for both cleaning and allergies: lemon, tea tree, lavender, peppermint, and eucalyptus. Lemon is antibacterial, antifungal, antimicrobial, and antiseptic. We see store-bought cleaning products with lemon all the time—lemon-fresh. It’s great for grease and grime. For allergies, lemon helps clear your sinuses, reduce congestion, soothe respiratory inflammation, and can reduce stuffiness.
Not only do you eliminate the nasty chemicals in your cleaning products and make something that helps with allergy relief, you also save money by not having to purchase those expensive cleaning products. Making your cleaning products with essential oils costs just pennies.
Join me in one of my workshops where you will learn how to use the other oils for cleaning and allergies. We will make a product that you can take home with you. Classes are available for Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. on April 2, April 9, April 16, and April 30. There are also Saturday morning classes at 11 a.m. on April 4, April 11, and April l8. If these times are not convenient, contact me to schedule a one-on-one. For those who have a few friends who may be interested in learning more about essential oils, you can host a workshop. Anyone who hosts a workshop will receive a special hostess gift. All you do is invite, and I do the rest.
