Desert Navy Update

Richard Volpe

As we approach the month of November, there are some changes that have been made regarding the times and location of our monthly meetings. Our next scheduled meeting is on Friday, Nov. 17. The meeting will be held at Black Bear Diner at 10 a.m. The restaurant is located at the far end of the shopping plaza, which is located on the northeast side of Queen Creek and Alma School Roads. All veterans are always welcome to attend all of our meetings and other events. Additionally, on a weekly basis, several members get together for lunch at Black Bear Diner at 2 p.m. on Tuesdays.

At our club meeting on Nov. 17, we will be having a guest speaker from Humana who will be discussing Medicare, as well as what’s new for the many plans that may still be available and other benefits being offered by the major HMOs.

One of our club’s main goals is to be there to provide help and support to those in need as best we can. In our inventory, we maintain a wide variety of items that are available by simply making a phone call. This includes several motorized items, as well as an inventory of electric scooters, which help those having trouble getting around improve their quality of life. It’s a nice feeling for our members to see the items that have already been placed with those in need over the past several months, enabling them to enjoy life a little bit more. For a more detailed description of what is available if you have an interest, please contact Rich Volpe. His telephone number is listed below. This equipment is well maintained and kept in tip-top shape.

New members are always welcome. For additional information regarding membership, medical supplies, and club activities, feel free to call Rich Volpe at 480-802-2532.

Enjoy this fine time of the year when the weather is so envied by many and the spirit of the holiday season with the new life it brings into the area is only days away. A quick reminder for club members: The annual holiday get-together is scheduled for Dec. 13. It will be held at Keegan’s in Chandler. The time is yet to be determined and will be available as soon as possible.
