The month of July always brings about a new sense of excitement no matter where you are, as the summer is in full swing and the 4th of July weekend is filled with places to go and family and friends to see. Like many clubs in the area, the Desert Navy puts many of its formal activities on hold for the summer months with plans to regroup once again in the fall, shortly after the Labor Day weekend when we anticipate things will pick up quickly, as the prime time of the year is rapidly approaching. Being a service organization, our doors never close for those in need, and we will always be available and a phone call away. We can’t help you if you don’t call.
As a club, we do maintain a pretty extensive amount of medical supplies that are readily available when the unexpected comes up with a need for a wide variety of things. For long-term support, at present, we do have some motorized equipment, such as wheelchairs, etc., that can improve the lifestyle for somebody who may have those needs. Feel free to call the number below at any time if you are looking for additional details or currently have a specific need that you want help with.
Throughout the summer months, several members of the Desert Navy continue to meet for lunch on a weekly basis at the IHOP located in the Target Shopping Center off Arizona Avenue. The scheduled time for this is on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. in the back area of the restaurant, and it is a fine time to meet up with members and enjoy some interesting conversation.
The Desert Navy welcomes all veterans who have served time in the Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines. At our meetings, when possible, we do invite guest speakers who help us all keep abreast of new areas of benefits that we’re not aware of and many services that are available to support our individual needs at times. Our next planned formal club meeting is planned for late October. Any changes to that will be provided to all members well in advance and will also be noted in the Splash and SunBird News.
If you have questions regarding any of the above, please feel free to give Rich Volpe a call at 480-802-2532, and I’m sure he’d be happy to talk to you.
Have a great day and a safe, healthy summer!
