New Adventures in Learning: Energize Your Lazy Days of Summer

Have you seen a Waymo vehicle in your neighborhood? Learn all about this ride-hailing service during Whitney Steele’s presentation in July.

Jan Bobbett and Mary Kenny

The pace of life is a little slower mid-summer, which makes it the perfect time to sit back and relax while taking one of New Adventures in Learning’s interesting classes that require no test, no homework, and no commitment to meeting multiple times. If you want to energize your lazy days of summer, below are classes that meet in July that just might do the trick. Several classes are offered via Zoom, too, so you don’t even need to leave your favorite chair!

Autonomous Driving 101 is just one Zoom class coming in July that may pique your interest. Whitney Steele, public affairs specialist with Waymo, the world’s first autonomous ride-hailing service, will tell us more about these unique vehicles that we often see driving around our neighborhoods. She’ll answer our questions: What is autonomous driving? Who is Waymo? Why is this technology important? How can I utilize this service? Learn the answers to these questions during this July 22 class.

Other Zoom classes include:

* World War II Battlefield Europe: A Primer

* Gravity: Don’t Let It Get You Down

* Should I Age in Place or Look for Other Options?

* Are You Dementia Friendly?

* Understanding Reverse Mortgages

* Internet Security for Seniors

* New Adventures’ Ongoing Book Club

Upcoming in-person classes include:

* Film and Discussion – Bitcoin: The End of Money as We Know It

* Situational Awareness

* Fraud Prevention and Awareness – Trending and Future Scams

* Travel Safety

Details about each of the above July classes can be found at www.newadventures.info. Don’t worry, there’s still plenty of time to start your lifelong learning journey! Registration remains open throughout the semester.

New Adventures is a not-for-profit, membership organization affiliated with Chandler-Gilbert Community College (CGCC). Annual membership is $60, and the semester administration fee is $20 for each semester you enroll in classes. When you become a member during the summer semester, your membership includes the summer of the following year, so you get an extra semester free!

New Adventures remains a bargain compared to many lifelong learning programs, which charge up to $40 per class. We charge no per-class fee, so your dues and semester fee allow you to take as many classes as you wish at no additional cost. Also, when you become a member of New Adventures, you become a student of CGCC and are eligible for student discounts on many college and community activities.
