Our October meeting was moved to Wednesday, October 24, as a dinner celebration of Oktoberfest. Our dinner included chicken schnitzel, German potato salad, veggie and dessert. Of course, Oktoberfest started back about 1810 as a celebration of Prince Ludwig’s marriage. The event was so well liked that the people of Munich decided to celebrate the marriage yearly. Although it was suspended several times due to wars, the event has grown into a huge celebration that stretches from Munich to around the world. I wonder if Ludwig ever dreamed that his marriage would turn into an international event and survive into the 21st century!
For our November meeting, we will outline the Christmas Dinner which is scheduled for Wednesday, December 5. The menu will be discussed along with cost of about $15 per person. We will spend time discussing German traditions for the Christmas season, and we will have pizza to serve. So plan to attend on Tuesday, November 27, at 6:00 p.m. in the Lakeview Room.
Any SunBird resident interested in the German heritage is invited to join our club which meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month in the Lakeview Room.
Auf wiedersehen
