Thank you to everyone who came to the Garden Club’s 2020 annual Home and Garden Tour! And thank you to our gracious hosts and hostesses who opened their homes for all of us to tour. Joan Butcher, Kimberly and Bill Ley, Gup and Dale Stein, Carol Garrett and Jerry Searles, Art Norby, and Lisa and Wayne Oynx, we thank you for allowing us to see how you’ve transformed your homes into your own personal oases. We all enjoyed the beautiful weather, great company, and delicious refreshments.
We sold a record number of Home and Garden Tour tickets this year, and after expenses, we raised just over $3,200 to be used to maintain, beautify, and expand gardens throughout our SunBird Community. Representatives from both the HOA and SunBird Golf Club presented project proposals for our consideration. At our March meeting, we voted to donate $2,000 to the HOA to be used to improve the parking lot adjacent to the clubhouse front door. We also voted to donate $2,000 to SunBird Golf Club, to be used to repair and replace irrigation sprinkler heads. Earlier this year, we donated $1,000 to SunBird Helping SunBird, a fund managed by Layne Varney for SunBird residents in need of assistance.
Donna Bergmann and Carol Delk were elected to the Garden Club Board. We welcome them to the board and thank retiring members Jackie Cox and Kate Chambers for their service.
In other news, the March rock was finally found by Al Franklin! Our March rock hiders did an excellent job of tucking this rock away, as it was not discovered until the very last day of March! Congratulations, Al! He received a $25 gift certificate to the Horizon Room. We hope to continue SunBird Rocks in the fall. Stay tuned!
Our April meeting was canceled due to the coronavirus, so we were unable to enjoy brunch on the patio together before everyone left for the summer. We hope everyone stays healthy and safe during the summer!
