Weeds

Bonnie Marcus (Weed Witch), Community Administrator

We are now officially in monsoon season. This time of year we can expect warmer temperatures, heavy winds, thunderstorms, dust storms, rain and weeds. The winds can cause breakage of limbs and trees that have not been maintained. Trees and limbs can fall and cause property damage to your home and your neighbor’s home. Your palm trees should have been trimmed by now.

Please check your property for weeds on a regular basis; they do pop up overnight. If the weeds get too high and then are sprayed they look brown and will need to be pulled. It is much easier to fight weeds with prevention and to stay on top of your weed situation before they get out of hand.

Pre-emergence herbicides are an application to the soil surface that minimizes germinating seeds of both annual and perennial weeds. This application should be applied prior to anticipated flushes of weed emergence (winter rains or summer monsoons). Drift from pre-emergence does not damage growing plants, but may prevent seeds from germinating. The pre-emergent chemical, when applied properly, will stop the emergence of most unwanted weeds.

Preventing the weeds from emerging in the first place will not only save you money, but also time. Most of us enjoy our recreation time, not the time picking those weeds. Please plan on scheduling professional regular pre-emergence treatments every six months. This will not only save you time and money, but you and your neighbors will enjoy your beautiful landscaping all year round weed free. You also won’t receive those weed violation notices from the Weed Witch.
