Our November meeting began with presentations by three candidates for the HOA board, Nancy Eckstein, Walt Griffin and Jim Fetterman.
Reports by committee chairs were presented. Ruth Jon Wick shared results of the Kare Bear Faire and reported new vendors have been enrolled for the Faire on December 6. Shirley Goodman reported on the Bake Sale and Sherry Fann on the White Elephant table, all of which were very successful. Thank you, everyone, for your donations of food and usable articles. You are so generous!
Elizabeth Pendrey reported 62 Kare Bear mugs have been distributed to those in our community who have been hospitalized and are presently convalescing at home. She and her helpers also offer cheerful smiles and conversation along with the mugs.
Our organization appears to entice those who desire to participate in the activities at SunBird that Kare Bears offers. We are happy to have five new Kare Bear members; they are Judy Johnson, Cheryl Moore, Barb Valentine, Ruth Campbell and Juanita Harbut. If you are interested contact a Board member.
Members of the Chandler Fire Department, our featured guests, shared data on the maintenance of smoke alarms. They also informed us of numerous home safety tips which could prevent accidents like burns and falls. The firemen arrived late in our meeting due to administering emergency aid, which the department provides to all of us in our “hour of need.” We were all clock watching, speculating on their location, when one of the Kare Bears said, “Just call 911.” This comment generated raucous laughter!
Every year monies made from our fundraisers allow our Kare Bear Board to shop for gifts to be distributed by Chandler Fire Department to the less fortunate children residing in Chandler.
Our Kare Bear holiday potluck luncheon is set for December 14; it is always a fun and festive celebration enhanced by the delicacies consumed and created by our members. Don’t forget to bring your donation of canned goods which will be donated to St Mary’s Food Bank.
Plans for the first ever Kare Bear sponsored golf tournament are creating a buzz of excitement. Barb Dunbar has been in communication with Rick, the golf course manager, for some time regarding this upcoming tournament which will be held on January 10. Shari Fann called for volunteers to sell Mulligans, provide donuts and coffee, register golfers and obtain sponsors for various holes.
