Unity: Respond with Care

Unity Church of Sun Lakes is a New Thought community. We gather together to celebrate Peace, Love, Light, and Healing. We practice affirmative prayer and positive thinking and the Five Unity Principles set down by Unity founders Charles and Myrtle Fillmore. We support each other in living a Spirit Centered life. Our church would normally be meeting Sundays in the Arts and Crafts Room at Sun Lakes Country Club, but we are closing the months of July and August. We will return on Sept. 11. Our Rev. Jeanne MacLaughlin will continue lessons on YouTube on Sundays when the church is closed. Thank you, Jeanne. Your lessons are wonderful!

Have you ever noticed that when our feelings or emotions are involved, we are liable to react in a way we may be sorry for later? Political messages on email and Facebook can trigger an emotional response. I understand it is called “click-bait.”

Julie Smith is a practicing psychologist and treats many patients for anxiety and depression. She noticed that there are many simple things we all can do to help ourselves and not need the help of medicine or a professional. For one thing, emotions and feelings are not facts, and we don’t have to act on them. The urge is strong, but so are we. Consider your personal values and choose not to react in anger. Challenge your urges, get some distance from your thoughts, and remember who you are. When “click bait” tempts you to react, stop, refuse to push the return button on your email. It’s not mandatory that you respond anyway. Reevaluate and shift instead, and your peace of mind will be intact. Remember that when you are facing the sun, the shadows are all behind you.
