Unity: Give Peace a Chance

Kay Davis

Unity Church of Sun Lakes is a welcoming and inclusive community of souls. We honor all paths to God. Our lives are transformed by the thoughts that we think and the words we speak through the power of Spirit within. We meet at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings in the Arts and Crafts Room (in the southernmost meeting room) of the Sun Lakes Country Club, located on Sun Lakes Blvd., a long block south of Riggs Road. Parking is available under the solar panels, and signs lead the way. Rev. Jeanne MacLaughlin is our spiritual leader, and Francine Alexander is our minister of music. Join us for coffee and fellowship after the service.

One of our Sun Lakes Unity members was visiting Flagstaff this summer and joined in with the Unity church of Flagstaff to celebrate International Peace Day on Sept. 21. Many different religions and non-profit organizations gathered together at Heritage Square. Unity of Flagstaff shared a tent with the Bahai congregation, and there was a prayer and meditation circle of chairs for anyone who wished to sit out of the sun and spend time in peace and quiet. There was a program that featured singers, musical groups, dancers, drummers, a yoga group, and martial arts. The Ballet Folklorica performed their traditional Mexican dances. Most precious were the children who performed in colorful costumes, so proud to show what they could do. Toward the end of the day, we gathered together to form the peace sign and sang and chanted, “All we are saying is give peace a chance.” The day ended as we joined hands and sang the peace song. Different colors, different cultures, different costumes, different religions, and different ages all came together in Oneness and Peace. This is what we truly are and what we invite the world to be.
