It has been a pretty quiet summer for the SunBird Niners; however, many of us have continued to golf through the heat, because we love the sport! During the summer, we play more informally; you can play a scramble or your own game. You do not have to be a member of the Niners to golf during the summer. We always welcome new golfers. The sign-up sheets are still posted on the Niners’ golf bulletin board in the walkway between the Golf Shop and the Lakeview Room.
Some exciting news about our Niners is that four of the 29 hole-in-ones so far in 2021 have been made by a SunBird Niners member (see the list below). It is noteworthy that Marilyn Klooster has had eight hole-in-ones over the years.
3/2/21: hole 14, Joan Seaman
3/15/21: hole 14, June Preder
4/23/21: hole 17, Marilyn Klooster
6/16/21: hole 17, Marilyn Klooster
We continue to have our second-Tuesday-of-the-month luncheons at different restaurants each month. Some of the Niners who are not golfing go to the luncheons to enjoy the camaraderie. Everyone is welcome to come. We have a signup sheet for the luncheons, also on the golf bulletin board if you would like to join us.
Look for the Women Niners Member Signup Forms sometime in October. They will be posted on the Niners golf bulletin board. Formal Niners’ golfing begins on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021. The cost of the annual membership will be $75. Keep in mind that new members will need to establish their handicap with a minimum of six nine-hole strokes. This can be accomplished from the yellow or red tees, any combination of 9- or 18-hole scores, and from any golf course. Summer is a great time to establish your handicap. Once you have established your handicap, either during off-season play or during official season play, you are eligible to win chits. Chits can be used for golfing fees and/or merchandise purchases at the SunBird Pro Shop. Current golf members should be recording their scores as well. We look forward to seeing all the returning Niners, and we hope to see many new members in 2022.
