Arizona Lions Gather and Make Plans for the New Year
On Aug. 9 more than 100 Lions from clubs all over the state met at SunBird. Lion leaders recognized new clubs and accomplishments by several key retiring and incoming officers. Representatives from the Pediatric Cancer group and Hunger Service group were on hand to discuss possible new charities for individual Lions Clubs to add. The day was filled with new ideas, games, and big fun for all attendees.

Die Liedermäuse
SunBird Lions, the German Club, and HOA Prepare for the 2nd Annual Oktoberfest
It’s time to get out your lederhosen and dust off your dancing shoes as the SunBird Lions, the German Club, and the SunBird HOA present the 2nd Annual Oktoberfest on Tuesday, Oct. 21, in the ballroom and on the patio. We will be featuring Die Liedermäuse, an authentic Bavarian band playing polkas, waltzes, and several of your favorites as we kick off the fall season with dancing and fun at SunBird. Once again, the staff from the Horizon Room will be preparing brats with all the fixin’s and other favorites for the event. The band will kick off SunBird’s Oktoberfest at 4 p.m., and dinner will be available around 5 p.m. We will have several raffle prizes, as well as cash drawings throughout the evening.
Tickets will be available from Thursday, Oct. 2, in the clubhouse hallway from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Your ticket includes dinner, dance, and a raffle ticket for one of the cash prizes. Tickets are only $20.
Don’t miss this special event. Get your friends and neighbors to come and celebrate!
First Meeting of the SunBird Lions September 16
Our first meeting of the new year will be on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 4:30 p.m. in the Lakeview Room. We will be discussing the charities we are planning to support this year and possibly adding some new ones. We will be asking for volunteers for our 2nd Annual Oktoberfest, scheduled for Oct. 21. Your attendance is very important, and if you have a friend who is interested in finding out what Lions do, bring them to our meeting.
Why Join SunBird’s Lions Club?
1. Because your “to-do” list needs more “doing good” and less household chores.
2. Where else can you get your fill of community service, friendship, and potentially some really good food.
3. It’s like being a superhero, with meetings and no capes (unless you really want to wear a cape—we are open to ideas).
4. If you’ve ever wanted to make a difference and meet folks who don’t think volunteering is a dirty word, this is where you belong.
5. Come for the service, stay for the laughs, and leave feeling like you have made the world a slightly better place.
See you on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 4:30 p.m. in the Lakeview Room.

Lion Eileen, Lion Arlene, and Lion Jana, assisted by special helpers Nixon and Addisyn, delivered a large donation of supplies to benefit the students.

Since 1957, the Arizona Humane Society has believed every pet deserves a good home and life. Currently, the shelters in Arizona are at capacity and need support. That’s where SunBird Lions Arlene Block and Michael Block took the lead and are collecting blankets and other items for the shelters to supplement their needs. Thanks to Lion Arlene and Lion Michael for leading this program.
It’s often the little things that make a significant difference in the lives of others. The SunBird Lions Club spearheaded a school supply collection effort for Hartford Sylvia Encinas Elementary School in Chandler.
