Join the SunBird Lions for our Recycling and Waste Management Service Day in support of the Global Initiative on the Environment. This special event will take place on Wednesday, April 22 (Earth Day), from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the patio.
Items Accepted for Collection:
• Gently used eyeglasses, sunglasses, and readers
• Hearing aids and batteries
• Empty aluminum cans
• Old blankets or towels
• Non-perishable food items
Your donations during this service day will help promote sustainability and contribute to the protection of our planet. By participating, you are helping us work toward a cleaner future and directly supporting the ongoing efforts of the SunBird Lions.
SunBird Lions Club Donates Handicap Access Door
In October members of the Homeowners Association asked the Project and Review Committee about the possibility of installing a handicap access door at the east end of the ballroom. They felt that it is necessary, because there is no access for mobility-impaired residents when the ballroom is partitioned, isolating that end of the room. Many meetings are held in this part of the ballroom. The committee felt that it should be done if funding could be found.
The SunBird Lions Club was approached about possibly funding the project. At the next meeting, the Lions decided that the project could be funded by the club with a grant from Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) using Club Community Grant money from their account.
The club got a quote for the installation of the handicap access door from Allegion Access Technologies and applied for the LCIF grant. The grant was approved.
Actual installation of the door was in December, after formal approval of the full HOA board.
SunBird Lions Bingo
Our Bingo games are held on the first and third Friday of each month from November through April in the SunBird ballroom. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and games begin at 6:30 p.m. Bingo is open to the public. Snacks and beverages are available for a nominal fee.

Support the SunBird Lions: Recycle Your Cans
Are you tired of throwing out all those pop and beer cans? The SunBird Lions Club has a solution that not only helps the environment but also supports a great cause. The club collects aluminum cans and recycles them, turning the proceeds into funds that benefit the Lions’ community projects.
For your convenience, there are several large containers located around the clubhouse where you can drop off your cans. If you’re hosting a party or gathering, consider setting out a box labeled “Cans for Lions.” After your event, simply let us know, and we’ll handle the pick-up.
To arrange for can pick-up, please call Lion Joe Hart at 808-221-6767 or Lion Gordon Olson at 612-803-5215. We will gladly collect your cans and ensure they go toward supporting the SunBird Lions’ initiatives.

Lions District 21S Convention at SunBird
On Feb. 21 nearly 200 Lions from MD21S, representing the southern half of Arizona, gathered at SunBird for their annual District Convention. The event lasted all day and provided valuable opportunities for training focused on membership growth and leadership development within the organization.
The convention was marked by a lively atmosphere, plenty of fun, and the creation of great memories for all who attended. In addition to networking and learning, the Lions also conducted the election for next year’s district officers, ensuring strong leadership for the future.
Celebrate Any Occasion with the Traveling Flamingos
The SunBird Lions Club offers a unique and festive way to celebrate your special events with their flock of traveling flamingos. Whether it’s a birthday, anniversary, or any other memorable occasion, these flamingos are ready to add a touch of fun and surprise to the festivities.
If you would like to arrange a visit from the flamingo flock, simply contact Lion Jan Engdahl at 602-568-0511. She will coordinate to have the flock set up the evening before your event, ensuring that your special someone receives a delightful surprise. After the celebration, the flock will be returned to their home the evening of the event.
This enjoyable experience not only brings joy to those celebrating but also helps support your SunBird Lions Club.
Lions Support Hunger Relief
The SunBird Lions are committed to helping eliminate hunger by collecting canned and dry grocery items for the AZCEND food pantry. If you would like to contribute, you can drop off your non-perishable donations in the designated collection boxes located in the Poster Room at the clubhouse.
For those who are snowbirds preparing to leave for the season, please consider supporting the SunBird Lions in their ongoing efforts to fight hunger before you head back. Your donations make a meaningful impact for individuals and families in need.
