The SunBird Lions received a request from a care coordinator in Casa Grande asking if the SunBird Lions Club could help by providing one of their clients with eyeglasses. Mr. Jose Saliva is 71 years old, in poor health, and is living on a limited income. The Lions Club researched the information and found that Mr. Saliva met the criteria.
The club contacted America’s Best Eyecare and Eyewear facility to provide the glasses. An appointment was made by Mr. Saliva, and he was met at the eyeglass facility by Lion Fred Garmeson who paid for the glasses. Mr. Saliva was given two pairs of glasses in October.
One could not imagine the feeling of seeing a person as happy as Mr. Saliva. This is why supporting the many events we sponsor is so rewarding and fulfilling and makes the lives of others so much more manageable.

All activities are open to the public.
Bingo is in the SunBird Golf Resort ballroom the first and third Friday of the month. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., sale of packets is at 6 p.m., and games begin at 6:30 p.m. No one under the age of 18 can play. Snacks and beverages are available for purchase.
Fundraiser: Wednesday, Dec. 4. Purchase food and beverages all day at Someburros on Gilbert Road. Mention SunBird Lions Club, and 30% of your purchase will be donated to SunBird Lions.
Tuesday, Dec. 17, at 7 p.m. SunBird Lions Club Second Annual Community Holiday Sing-along. Admission is free with a canned good, which will be donated to AZCEND Food Pantry.
Fundraiser: Thursday, Dec. 19. Barro’s Italian restaurant on Riggs and McQueen Roads from 4 to 9 p.m. Please pick up a flyer, available at the SunBird Lions Club Bingo the first Friday in December, or call Arlene Block at 602-618-5861. Please mention SunBird Lions Club, and 20% of your meal will be donated to the Lions.
Save the date of Saturday Jan. 25, 2025, for the Soultown Train tribute in the SunBird Golf Resort ballroom at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 each and will be on sale in the SunBird clubhouse lobby Monday through Friday, Jan. 13 through Jan. 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tribute Show January 25

The SunBird Lions Club invites you to join us for an evening with the tribute band Soultown Train on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, at 7 p.m. in the SunBird Golf Resort ballroom. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Soultown Train plays the songs that honor the artists who made funky soundtracks of America, grooving such legends as The O’Jays, Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder, Sly & The Family Stone, and Gladys Knight, bringing a show of energy and memories.
Tickets are $20 each and will be sold in the SunBird lobby Monday through Friday, Jan. 13 through Jan. 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please bring your family and friends. This event is open to the public. It will be an evening you won’t want to miss!
SunBird Lions Bingo

SunBird Lions Club Bingo, which is held the first and third Friday of the month until April of 2025, is back and going strong. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., packet sales begin at 6 p.m., and games begin at 6:30 p.m. Snacks and beverages are available for purchase.
Every person who plays is supporting our community and helping those in need. It’s a great way to have a fun evening and help others.
The winners on Nov. 1 were as follows: Liesa Firebaugh (won three games), Linda Brandon, Loren Carrel, Judy Mahn, Paula Warhoover, Darrell Kimball, Tonja Kinser, William Konenig, Jeanne Bert, Kay Schroeten, Marilyn Hespel, Joyce Dougal, Marty Eckstein, Kitty Wicks, Dodie Musgrave, Paula Curtis, Alda Frabotta, Bev Wilson, Robert Top, and our big winner who won the cover-all was Margie Sauer.

Fly the Flag Fundraiser

Lion Carol Zittel, director of the SunBird Lions Club Flag program, has 645 flags that are placed out for eight major holidays throughout the year.
You can order your flag by contacting Lion Carol at 480-883-0958. It is such a beautiful sight to go around and see the flags. Please call Lion Carol, and for a once-a-year fee of $45, you will have a flag in front of your home.
You can gift a flag to a neighbor, friend, or maybe a birthday, anniversary, or a welcome to SunBird. You will also be supporting the SunBird Lions Club and your community.
