You name what it’s for, and it will be done for a donation of $25. The SunBird Lions Club will make it happen. Community Garage Sale

Arlene Block

The SunBird Community Garage Sale is scheduled for the morning of Saturday, Nov. 16. Maps will be available at the Riggs Road gatehouse at the SunBird Golf Club entrance.

Look for the SunBird Lions Garage Sale, and you will find many items you can’t live without and support the SunBird Lions Club and its many programs.

Eyeglasses, hearing aids, medical equipment (wheelchairs, walkers, etc.), non-perishable food items and items that have not expired, aluminum pop/soda cans, and cell phones will be collected on that day, which will help those in need.

We are looking for donations for our garage sale. If you want to share some of the treasures you no longer use or need, SunBird Lions would be happy to pick them up, or you can deliver them to Lions Jana and Randy Haeffner. You can contact them at 815-761-7243.

With your help, we can continue to sponsor the Lions Club projects and help individuals in need.

Oktoberfest at SunBird

Arlene Block

The SunBird Lions Club and the SunBird German Club will be holding an Oktoberfest on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 5 p.m. on the patio at SunBird Golf Resort.

Music will be by accordion player Sylvia Johnson Jorgenson who has played the accordion since she was 10 years old, earning many awards for her performances. Accordionist and vocalist Leigh Dechaine, a retired petty officer of the U.S. Navy, will accompany Sylvia. This dynamic duo is sure to get you up and dancing or sitting and enjoying this variety of lively German music.

Get out your lederhosen, Alpine hat, and dirndl dress. Lift your beer mug and sing “Ein Prosit der Gemütlichkeit.”

Brats, German potato salad, beer, and other beverages will be available for purchase. There will also be a meat auction, which will feature top-grade meats. What a great opportunity to fill your freezer to enjoy these meats for indoor cooking or grilling! Different packages will be available.

This event is open to the public. Bring your family and friends and enjoy an evening like no other.

Tickets are available in the SunBird clubhouse.

For any questions, please contact Frank Nechvatal at 480-980-4392 or Chuck Heitbrink at 515-238-1824.

Lions Club Bingo Begins November 1

Arlene Block

The SunBird Lions Club Bingo will be held on the first and third Friday of each month, starting Friday, Nov. 1, through April of 2025.

Bingo is held in the SunBird Golf Resort ballroom. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and you can establish where you would like to sit. Sales for bingo cards begin at 6 p.m., and games begin promptly at 6:30 p.m.

Bingo is open to the public. No one under the age of 18 is permitted to play.

Refreshments are available for a nominal fee. Bingo packets will be 3 for $5 or 6 for $10. Specialty cards will be $1 each. You can also buy a single card for $1. Daubers will be $2.

Games will change, and there will be games that the caller will select that will double your money.

It is a great night to support SunBird Lions Club Bingo and its many programs it helps to fund. Some of these programs are provisions for the blind, childhood cancer, diabetes, the hearing impaired, and the food pantry, to name just a few. Without your support, none of this would be possible.

Mark it on your calendar to attend and enjoy a fun evening of Bingo. Bring your family, friends, and neighbors and make a table for all to enjoy.

Together We Serve.
