Mary Pilon
‘Tis 2017 already! Time flies when you are in our Irish Club. We welcomed the new year with a rousing meeting on January 5, setting a record for attendance and also for the number of active members. There were 96 (count ‘em!) members present for the meeting, which was held in the Horizon Room, and when our Membership Chairwoman Christine presented the grand total of members, which is now at 107, there was quite a cheer. We have grown enormously in the past few years, and are very happy to welcome all fun-loving Irishmen to join us.
President Walt opened the meeting by welcoming the new members Sandra, Mary and Dean, Kay, James, Jeannie and Russ, Sam and Barb, Lena, Ann and Woody, Cliff and Irene. Forgive me for not including last names. I would fracture spelling, and also I am unable to write as fast as Christine recites the names.
Birthday wishes went out to Deanna Calvert, Phyllis Zaccone, Joan Cornwell and Janet Rosenstock. Ray and Stevie Simone were congratulated on another year of wedded bliss.
The usual agenda followed: Minutes of December’s meeting were read and approved; the Treasurer’s Report was given by President Walt, in James’ absence.
Our upcoming annual Laughlin trip is a complete sell-out. We will be going to the Tropicana on February 7, 8 and 9. Everyone is looking forward to a wonderful time.
Plans are already being made for the Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner to be held in the ballroom on March 16. This dinner will be open to the public. Tickets are $18.00 pp, which include entertainment and dancing. Raffle and 50/50 will also be available.
The St. Pat’s Day parade will be on March 17. We will have decorated golf carts, autos and perhaps even some Irish animals included in the festivities. After the parade, we will congregate on the patio for more St. Paddy’s “cheer.”
After the meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m., we enjoyed delicious pulled pork sandwiches, prepared by the Horizon Room staff.
The next meeting will be held on Thursday, February 2, at 6:00 p.m. in the Horizon Room. We are still welcoming new members, so if you are Irish by birth or marriage, or if you can sing “Irish Eyes Are Smiling” (just kidding!), come to the meeting and join the fun.
