Mary Pilon, Secretary
December’s meeting was held on Tuesday, December 1 in the Horizon Room. After the greeting, minutes from November’s meeting and Treasurer’s report, we welcomed three new members, Floyd Filman and Liz and Doug English.
Vice President Deanna spoke about the upcoming annual fun-filled trip to Laughlin which is scheduled for February 16-18. A sign-up sheet was passed around. As usual, we will spend our nights at the Riverside Casino. The cost is $85 per person, non-refundable. The annual outing is always a wonderful time. We have often remarked that we have more fun on the bus than in the casino!
We are thinking about having a St. Patrick’s Day golf cart parade throughout the community. Phase one of the plans are in place and we all think it would be great fun to celebrate St. Paddy’s Day with “wearing o’ the green.” This will take place on March 17, the day after our annual delicious corned beef and cabbage feast. Everyone is welcome. Details later.
We are planning a bean bag and horseshoe event at the end of January and also a shuffleboard party in February. Both events will include potluck, beverages and a lot of laughs.
We Irishmen all brought unwrapped gifts for the children at Hartford School. Carolyn Larson, a 6th grade teacher, picked up the gifts and thanked us on behalf of the students. Carolyn said that each child can pick two gifts and usually that is all they will receive for Christmas. She added that many children pick one gift for themselves and one for another sibling.
Janet Rosenstock, our bocce ball organizer, reminded all members that we have a 1:00-3:30 p.m. date each Monday for bocce ball competitions.
Our 50/50 raffle was won by Steve Lemons, who took home a whopping $94! Deanna Calvert won $49 in our dollar game.
Our meeting adjourned at 6:50 p.m. followed by a pizza party.
Happy New Year to all SunBird residents from your Irish Club!
