SunBird Horseshoe Club concludes season

Bob Neuman

The long standing SunBird Horseshoe Club finished the winter season on March 25, marking the end of the competition and camaraderie until fall. Thanks to Charley and Peggy Nadeu who were in charge of a hotdog lunch held at the pits following the last match and to all who contributed to make a smooth season.

Those who are long participating players have seen those drop out due to death, disability and relocations occur and new participants sign on.

For example, Chuck Hamrich has hung up the shoes after 15 years of several first place finishes and sometimes director of the club. According to Chuck, his athletic genes came from an athletic family such as his mother and father taking numerous trophies in badminton. “I think I am looking for new challenges and will add some new activities.” Chuck and Marlene call Ohio home and have a daughter there who is a physician.

Here are the top finishers among the 10 teams: Best in the 12 week season was the team Chuck Hamrich and Jim Daniel with 97 points; second place went to Rolie Landemieir and Walt Kinney with 93 points; and in third place was the team of Cal Deur and Derald Fletmann with 74 points.

If you have an interest in fun and friendly competition and would like to join the SunBird Horseshoe Club check the glass case in the Post Office breezeway to sign up for full time or sub for the fall season. Pitching perfection is not required.
