SunBird Golf Club CRAB Golf Challenge and Community Auction Set for November 20

The SunBird Golf Club is only a few weeks away from the re-emergence of one of the most significant annual fundraising events in support of the golf course. The CRAB Team Golf Challenge and its accompanying Community Auction are returning to their normal November time slots after the 2020 events had to be postponed until last spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The CRAB Team Challenge will be held on Saturday, Nov. 20, with a shotgun start.

The acronym CRAB stands for Canadians, Roadrunners, Americans, and Bandits. The goal is to have 30 foursomes in the event, with each foursome made up of a member from each of the above teams. At the end of the event, points are awarded to the members of each foursome based on their scores. The team with the most points is then declared the CRAB champion and holder of bragging rights for the year. Signup sheets have been posted on the bulletin boards near the golf shop, so be sure to get into this fun event. The challenge is open to both men and women. If you are not involved in one of the clubs (C, R, or B) and want to play, sign up on the American list or contact the golf shop. You will be placed on one of the teams.

The fun-filled and popular part of this weekend event, the Community Auction, will return to the clubhouse patio on Friday, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m. This will be a live auction, as opposed to the silent auction held last spring. John and Marsha Brockish, auction committee co-chairs, have been busy collecting donations of all types, from the community and merchants, to be sold at bid. These items may include bicycles, tools, new and used golf equipment, baked goods, gift certificates, gift cards, housewares, paintings, craftsmen services, and more. Please call John or Marsha at 480-759-0742 with questions regarding donations or if you would like to help with the auction.

All members of the community, golfers and non-golfers alike, are invited to participate in the auction through donations and bidding. All proceeds from these events will benefit our beautiful SunBird golf course.
