Sun Lakes Chorale closes out season

The Sun Lakes Chorale closed out their season before the long summer break with a concert on March 14. As in the past, the concert was filled with a wide range of musical pieces, and the hard work of the Chorale was rewarded with another successful evening.

The variety of pieces performed was wide and varied in tempo and mood. Each piece was performed with so much more than just musical effort. The Chorale members, directors and accompanists sang and played each piece with love of music and a deep commitment to provide the audience with a pleasurable experience. We always want our audiences to go away feeling better than when they came in – and we think we accomplished that again with this concert.

Some of the numbers performed by the Chorale were upbeat – “Route 66,”
“Old Devil Moon,” “In That Great Getting’ Up Mornin’” – to name just a few. The transition to more temperate numbers like “Dreams,” the Yeats poem put to music by our own director Cris Evans-Temple, “It Had to Be You” and the hopeful “If I Can Stop One Heart from Breaking,” along with several other numbers, brought the program full circle.

We were proud to showcase our soloists: Jim Brown, Jack Perin and the Murrays – Kelly and Mike. Individual performances by Wes Davis, Jim Brown, Earl Whiteman and a duet by Gene and Jeanette Cline helped round out the entire program. The Chorale could not perform all these wonderful pieces, the solos and individual performances without the able and talented help of MJ Clement who supplies practice CDs, our performance coordinator Bart Temple, accompanists Caroline Brown on the piano, Betty J (BJ) Van Noy on percussion and guitar and, of course, the skillful direction of Cris Evans-Temple. Each of these individuals makes the singers better in their knowledge of choral techniques and presentation. We thank each of them for their participation and for helping to make each performance a fulfilling experience, not just for the audience, but for the singers as well.

We also wish to thank each and every person who attended this and other concerts for their continued support, and we hope to see you at future concerts. We will break now until the fall, when we will again take our places at practice and learn new and old numbers to give our audiences another good concert experience. Our next concert will be in December, 2019.
