Quilt Show Coming for Desert Threads

Marion Kersnick and Jackie Fife show their special Christmas creations at a well-attended, fun December meeting.

Arizona Quilters Guild (AQG) will have their annual Quilt Show at the Mesa Convention Center on March 23 through 25. Desert Threads is a Chapter of AQG, so this is “our” quilt show. Members entry fee is $10, and non-members entry fee is $15. Members can also volunteer for free entry. Volunteering is a great way to see what goes on behind the scenes, as well as seeing many beautiful quilts and making new friends. Visit www.arizonaquiltersguild.org for more information about the show and about the guild. While on the AQG website, check out the free lectures and low-price classes given via Zoom. You’ll get a front-row seat and be glad you watched.

Desert Threads meets every second Wednesday. We moved our start time earlier to 9:30 a.m., to give speakers more time. Come at 9 a.m. to register and socialize. The meeting is held at Cottonwood’s Phoenix Room (enter by the tennis courts). Quilter’s University was held during January’s meeting. Four educational mini-lessons were presented. Members proceeded from station to station to learn new tips and techniques. A business meeting detailing coming events and activities, followed by a Show and Tell, gave members lots of inspiration. Diana Jones explained a new Friendship Block Exchange, and Cindy Templeton introduced a UFO (UnFinished Object) Challenge for the 2023 calendar year. Maryellen Swanson introduced upcoming classes and workshops for binding techniques, a quick edge applique technique, coloring fabric, Quilt As You Go technique, and Landscape quilting. The Feb. 8 meeting features art quilter Debra Kay, a member of SAQA. She does Southwest fiber art and will talk about different forms of embellishments.

We are an inclusive, friendly group, and welcome anyone interested in quilting, whether beginner or advanced or just an enthusiast. Our board members organize workshops, classes, lectures, and fun activities throughout each month, September through May. Come to a meeting as a guest to learn what we are all about. Attendees always go home with inspiration for a new project. Send an email to [email protected] for information about Desert Threads Chapter.
