Pickleball season is underway

The 2016/2017 season is underway but anyone can join at any time. The wildly popular sport that is sweeping the U.S. and Canada is available right here in SunBird. If you’re looking for a fun, social, inclusive activity that while being a low impact sport, provides great fitness benefits, then please drop in and give it a try. The rules are uncomplicated and the game is easy to catch on to and generally less intense than tennis, but as is the case in any sport, can be very competitive if you choose to play at that level. For those that haven’t played before please know that you can borrow a paddle before you purchase your own.

Your first day on the court, including a beginner clinic you may attend, you will be required to sign a general liability waiver. We must insist that you wear court shoes as opposed to sneakers or running shoes which do not offer the proper support for side to side movement inherent in pickleball. Clothing can be any type of athletic wear that is comfortable and appropriate for the climate. Don’t forget your water bottle! It will be fun, fun, fun!

The Pickleball Club will do its best to ensure that new players are given the opportunity to learn the basics in small groups. Our intention is to hold a beginner clinic approximately once every few weeks so watch for these clinic dates and times which will be posted in the informational carousel on the main floor of the Clubhouse as well as the pickleball display case at the courts. It should also be noted that there is plenty of information and video instruction available on the Internet as well if you would like to supplement your current knowledge of the game.

Join us at the courts on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 2:00-5:30 p.m. and Sunday from 3:00-6:00.

Try it a few times before you agree to the financial commitment of $10 per season for owners/renters of SunBird. This includes a wind-up tournament and barbecue early spring.

For those who have a fear of commitment, the Pickleball Club accepts $5 drop in fees (does not include spring social).

Note: Fees cover costs of balls and miscellaneous.
