The SunBird Men’s Club had its first monthly meeting on Feb. 6. After the various committee heads presented their updates, Dave White updated us on the SunBird Golf Club Local Rules. Dave also clarified that areas that are receiving new gravel (holes 13 and 14 in particular now) are considered free-relief areas.

The “Don Hunt/Jack Cooper” proposal from January’s meeting to change the format for Thursday’s Men’s play was voted on and passed by the members in attendance. Going forward for Thursday play, there will be no Hole #3 game. It has been replaced with the newly voted-in weekly Deuce Pot game. The mandatory entry fee will go from $5 to $6 to fund this game.

With the crazy weather, it has been difficult but not impossible to get in Thursday Men’s play. With that, Don Hunt has finally been able to freshen up his H-I-O report. Don confirmed that he made one payout last month to none other than Mr. John Brockish. John holed out hole 17 in January play with a great shot on a day when the pin was located right behind the middle of the sand trap. Congratulations to John on adding to his number of aces at SunBird.

Despite the weather, we were able to start and complete the annual Men’s Club Match Play tournament in January. There were 30 entrants in four flights for the single-elimination, three-round tournament. The big winners were Jeff Seaman (Championship Flight—what a surprise!), Bob Lama (Flight 1), Dave Edington (Flight 2), and Bruno Cyzowski (Flight 3). Congratulations to each of these golfers, and thank you to all who participated in match play.

As of this writing, the Men’s Club Executive Board is still looking to fill the open vice president position. Please call Scott Stohr to ask any questions you may have regarding the responsibilities associated with this position. Scott would like to fill this position ASAP. There are also going to be several open Executive Board seats after this season of golf, as terms for some of the positions conclude and a couple of others will become open after the season. We have 138 registered members and would appreciate volunteers to fill these positions so that Men’s Club can continue to function and roll. Please talk to any of us about the opportunity to help the few govern for the many in the Men’s Club for the 2024-25 season.

Hope to see you at the next meeting on Tuesday, March 5, at 9 a.m.
