The New Adventures in Learning (NA) fall semester is offering more than 50 classes (lectures, roundtable discussions, and computer-related classes) as registration continues throughout the semester, ending mid-December.
After more than a year of online classes, NA members will be welcomed back “on campus” at the Chandler-Gilbert Community College’s Sun Lakes Center (northeast corner of Riggs and Alma School Roads). While facial coverings will be required of everyone entering the building, members can enjoy the social aspect of lifelong learning once again, becoming reacquainted with old friends and meeting new ones. In-person classes will be offered on Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout the semester.
Members who are unable to meet in-person or prefer remote learning are encouraged to continue participating via Zoom, enrolling in the many online classes offered on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays.
This month we’re highlighting in-person classes presented by Joan Campbell, Community Affairs Coordinator with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. Joan will present four classes at the Sun Lakes Center this fall to help you keep yourself and your family safe. On Oct. 14 she will present “Residential Security and Being Safe in Public.” This informative class will focus on safety practices at home and situational awareness techniques when out in public. With our best outdoor season fast approaching, we all need to be diligent about keeping ourselves and our possessions safe.
Other classes being offered by Campbell include: Trending Scams, Criminals Taking Advantage (Oct. 7); Internet Safety & Identity Theft (Oct. 21); and Travel Safety (Oct. 28).
With so many classes offered, it’s never easy to decide which to choose. Sometimes we make our decisions based on getting wiser about finance, health, or the Internet, etc. Or we might decide on classes based on finding new interests or learning about topics we want to understand better, like constellations or using Google. With that in mind, here are a few of the classes offered in October, but look at the complete list to uncover what you would enjoy each month:
* Arizona Sights & History (in-person)
* Locate Stars and Constellations with a Planisphere (in-person)
* The NA Book Club (Zoom)
* Two classes on Dementia Friendly Community (Zoom)
* Medicare Options (in-person)
* Airships of the Inter-War Period (in-person)
* America’s Alt-Right: QAnon & Beyond (in-person)
And consider several classes by Gene Lariviere, including:
The Great Camp Papago POW Escape, The Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921 and The Pentagon Papers 50 Years Later, as well as classes on German and Italian (all are in-person).
And there are so many more interesting classes coming in the months ahead! New fall classes start every week, so there’s still plenty of time to register for those that interest you.
