Happy New Year! The year 2014 seemed to go by so quickly and we are already into the new year.
2014 was a successful year for SunBird with many improvements and updates to the services and facilities. Replacing some of the aging utilities lines at the clubhouse were addressed this past summer. The exterior of the Clubhouse had many improvements made to keep it modern and refreshed with some new landscaping, décor and lighting. The interior had several repairs, touching up and some updated equipment added. It’s hard to believe the clubhouse is 27 years of age.
The Food and Beverage Department had several changes made starting with new management, operations and services offered. Goals and visions were created during the year for the Food and Beverage Department resulting in these changes to better accomplish SunBird’s objectives. These changes have been very positive and have resulted in many compliments of customer service and food quality and a drastic increase in sales in a short period of time. This will be an ongoing process with more growth and improvements in the works.
2014 had some surprises with the monsoon storms and heavy downpour of rain that damaged many common area trees that had to be removed. The main natural gas line feed to the Clubhouse had a leak causing the Clubhouse to be closed down for a period of time. All of these have been addressed; however, other trees in the common areas continue to grow and face future storms, and will still need future attention.
For the year 2015 we look forward to beginning the new Clubhouse swim pool reconfiguration project. Engineering plans for this project have been completed and the review from both Maricopa County and the City of Chandler Building Departments for permits is in process. It is anticipated that this project will begin May 1, to be completed August 31. This will add value to the Clubhouse and allow for multiple activities to occur simultaneously in the pool for increased usage. Once complete, the landscape on the south side of the Clubhouse will be updated to continue the theme of décor and plantings recently completed around the areas of the Clubhouse. The Clubhouse Ballroom and Post Office building roofs will be redone this year due to age and to protect the integrity of both structures.
Other improvement projects are being considered to help keep the clubhouse and facilities modern and vibrant. The success of the year 2014 is a group effort by Board of Directors, committees, clubs, staff and many individuals who dedicate time and work with the goal of keeping and making SunBird a great place to live.
Again we look forward to a great 2015 year and wish all a Happy, Healthy and Safe New Year!
