Manager’s Report

2023 is well on its way with a fast and furious start with the celebrations and festivities. January was an activity-packed month with SunBird welcoming the new year with an excellent party in the Horizon Room. This New Year’s Eve event had great food, live music from the Harley Davidson Band, and always good company of our community. The Aretha Franklin cover band live concert held in the ballroom was absolutely fantastic! Annual Chinese auction fun and fundraiser is always a great time, with surprise auction items and anticipation of who has the winning number. SunBird Game Show night debuted in the ballroom with our live audience, and contestants were randomly selected to “come on down!” and play on stage against other audience contestants in a variety of television-type game show events. Not overlooking the Dueling Pianos concert, fashion show, Bingo, trivia, and many other events. That’s only one month. We are looking forward to the Eagles tribute band in February and much more.

Cox Communications is still at work installing infrastructure to provide the option of their services to all of SunBird. This project of installing conduit, pedestals, and equipment within an existing resident community is a major undertaking. This work is anticipated to be complete by the end of this year. As certain sections of SunBird are complete, services will be made available as options to residents. More information will be forthcoming.

Each year, SunBird has an independent third party financial audit firm reviewing the current year ending financial reports and transactions. The auditors review financial transactions throughout the year, meet with SunBird’s accounting firm, and review financial reports and other related information. Once the process has been completed, the auditor will provide an annual audit report that will be made available to homeowners. The previous year’s recent annual audit reports, along with the monthly financial reports, can be viewed on SunBird’s website.

With the number of rain storms the area has received over the past few months and the warmer than normal weather, we can expect an explosion of weed growth. The common area landscape areas are treated twice annually with a pre-emergent weed spray. This treatment does not terminate existing weeds. It minimizes the germination of future weed growth. The blue/green/yellow color with treatment is only a dissipating dye to indicate to the applicator where they covered with treatment. Usually, within 72 hours, the color disappears. The existing weeds have or will be addressed with a post-emergent treatment that will terminate weed growth. This is anticipated to be quite challenging this year due to the perfect weather for weeds.

We truly appreciate all the staff members in the various departments and many volunteers of SunBird who work diligently to make the services, amenities, recreational facilities, and social activities a success, from the organization, planning, scheduling, marketing, and promotion of these to the set-up, clean-up, function, and everything involved that makes these and this community a great place to be!
