Manager’s Report

Layne Varney

Welcome back to all of our returning residents from the summer break. It’s great to have our neighbors and friends return back to SunBird to join in on all the fun. During the month of October, SunBird hosted some terrific events. The Voyager Tour, which is a tribute cover band for Journey, was held in the ballroom with a packed house and great live music. The Welcome Back Oktoberfest party was also a fantastic event with excellent food, fun music, and good times. This was held both in the ballroom and on the patio due to the number of people in attendance. The Halloween Party is always an annual favorite, with many dressing up in truly creative and funny costumes. This year a night of mischief was held at the clubhouse the night before Halloween, with a surprise flash mob performance of zombies dancing to the Thriller Dance and Witches Dance at the Halloween Party and Dance.

SunBird’s annual Community Day on Nov. 5 is a great time to learn about the various clubs, classes, interest groups, and organizations of SunBird. It is also a good opportunity to meet with some of the local vendors and service providers in the area. If anyone is interested in joining a club or taking up a new hobby or sport, be sure to come on out to this huge event in the ballroom. Even if you’re not interested in any of these, come out anyway for some free swag and see what SunBird is all about.

The annual road maintenance work has been completed for the year. These projects went well, with no delays of rain or other complications. Road maintenance is necessary to prolong the life of the asphalt and needs to be conducted periodically. Along with the road work, all of the stop bars, crosswalk areas, parking lot, and street parking spaces have been repainted. Everything looks fresh and vibrant. We appreciate everyone’s patience with the road closures, detours, and understanding during these projects.

The main flat roof of the clubhouse was scheduled for work and was completed this year. The roof has been repaired, treated, and resealed due to many years of exposure to the heat and weather elements. This work is part of an ongoing preventative maintenance plan to preserve and keep the clubhouse in great condition. This roof work is projected to last the next 20-plus years. The exterior of the clubhouse was also just power-washed, with all of the windows and carpets cleaned. The clubhouse is in great shape from all of the maintenance and improvement projects completed this summer and is ready for high season.

During the month of November, we take time to remember and honor our many veterans who served and continue to serve, protect, and maintain our many freedoms and the many luxuries of life we all enjoy. Let us never forget these sacrifices of our veterans and their families for each of us. SunBird will be hosting a special honorary Veterans Day service at the clubhouse on Tuesday, Nov. 11. Let us never forget all those who paved the way for our freedom.

For those returning back to SunBird, please stop by the office for a personal “Welcome Back” greeting and to briefly update and review contact records. It’s a good idea for everyone to touch base with the SunBird office staff routinely to update any contact or other informational changes. This has been extremely helpful when an unexpected emergency arises in order to contact homeowners or family members. Those who have endured the long, hot summer, as always, stop by the office anytime with a friendly “Hi.” You are greatly appreciated for your resilience and patience during the various maintenance projects that have been completed around SunBird. Let’s be thankful and enjoy the good weather and work together to keep SunBird a great community. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
