The Lady 18ers held their annual Club Championship on March 14 and 21 with 44 ladies participating. This was a two-week, flighted, low gross tournament, using the total scores from the two weeks. The first week was a beautiful, sunny day, with week two being cool and windy, but that didn’t stop the ladies from coming out.

Congratulations to Cindy Vig who won the tournament with a gross score of 145 over two weeks and was awarded the Club Championship trophy. This is the ninth time Cindy has won our Club Championship! Well done, Cindy!

As this was a flighted tournament with a large group of participants, we had five flights this year. The top players in each flight are as follows:

Flight 1: Karen Gilmore, Melissa Craig, Connie Franklin

Flight 2: Lisa Onyx, Wendy Cameron, Margaret Munsch, Heather Verbitsky

Flight 3: Joyce Gerber, Denine Smulan, Pauline Cantera, Sue Koslofsky

Flight 4: Karen DeLong, Mary Albright, Elaine Carle, Toni Leonard

Flight 5: Carol Garrett, Shirl Morgan, Joy Morgan, Sue Mallery

On the second day of the tournament, despite the wind, Sandy Crane got a hole-in-one on hole 17. This was Sandy’s first hole-in-one. Congratulations, Sandy!

The trophies and prizes for the Club Championship gross tournament and SunBird Cup net tournament, which was played in February, were awarded at the end-of-the-season Step Aside Mixer with the Men’s 18ers Club on March 24. The SunBird Cup was won by Karen DeLong, with Margaret Munsch in second place and Karen Gilmore in third place. As well, the two ladies who will represent our Ladies League at next season’s State Medallion Club Tournament were announced: Cindy Vig, who had the lowest two-game gross score, and Karen DeLong, who had the lowest two-game net score in the four qualifying rounds. They will participate in the State Tournament in January of 2024 at Oakwood Country Club. Thank you to Julie and her team from the Horizon Room for serving a tasty lunch to all on the patio. It was a fun way to celebrate and bring the season to an end.

While the season is winding down, we are pleased to welcome Christine Donesky who joined our Ladies League. New members are always welcome! We had one more major event this season, which was our general meeting, followed by our annual awards on April 4.
