There will be no essential oil meeting in August. The next one is on Sept. 4, the first Wednesday. We will be making a blend to enhance the immune system. If your immune system is strong, you will rarely get sick. People around you may have colds and flu, but you seem to never be ill.
Stress, anxiety, worry, lack of sleep, poor exercise habits and unhealthy diets can weaken the whole immune system. These individuals tend to get sick a lot, and stress does more harm to the system than all the others combined. People who are happy often have strong immune systems.
One thing plaguing our environment here in Maricopa County is the West Nile Virus.
West Nile Virus Information Sheet (from Maricopa County website):
What is West Nile Virus (WNV)? West Nile Virus is a type of virus that mostly infects birds but can also infect horses and humans. WNV did not appear in Arizona until 2003, but since that time, the virus has been active in Arizona. In addition to humans, horses and birds, WNV can affect some other animals.
How can you catch WNV? WNV is spread by mosquitoes that feed on infected birds. The mosquitoes then bite people or horses, which may or may not show symptoms. Most people who get infected with WNV will not have any symptoms; 1 in 5 infected people will have mild flu-like symptoms.
About 1 of every 150 people infected with WNV will develop severe illness, including paralysis.
People over age 50 are most at risk for severe illness.
What are the symptoms of WNV? Usually, symptoms start 2 to 14 days after the bite of an infected mosquito. Symptoms can include: Milder symptoms (more common) – Fever – Headache – Body aches – Rash (more common in children) – Joint pain
Severe symptoms (less common) – Severe headache – High fever – Stiff neck – Muscle weakness – Confusion – Tremors, paralysis or coma
An acquaintance of mine has been hospitalized with WNV. He is over 70 and had been under stress as he was selling his beloved house and moving, and his mood became negative. All of this contributed to his being more susceptible to WNV. His wife is aware of this and is getting enough rest and staying positive during this ordeal. So, let us gather in September with happiness and joy in our hearts and have fun making this oil blend. If you wish to make the blend, bring $15.00. If not, you can come and listen and enjoy the group interaction.
If you require any oils or information, please give either one of us a call or email. This article will also be in the September issues. Please RSVP so there will be enough product.
The sharing usually occurs on the first Wednesday of the month at the SunBird Golf Resort (6250 SunBird Blvd., Chandler, AZ 85249) in the Navajo Room, located on the upper floor. When you enter the clubhouse, you are on the ground floor.
