Garden Club Says Goodbye

Laurie Doyle

The SunBird Garden Club is sad to say goodbye to longtime member Laurie Doyle. Laurie and Robert Crawford are leaving the SunBird community and moving to Arkansas.

Laurie has been a very important, integral part of the Garden Club. Laurie joined the club in 2017 and was elected to the board in 2018. The Garden Club was on the verge of disbanding before Laurie was elected, and she helped bring it back to life.

Laurie dug right in and researched everything the Garden Club had done since its beginning, providing each board member with a binder listing all past activities and projects, including Home & Garden Tour information. Laurie worked to update our bylaws and to thank and appreciate its founding members. She helped lead the general meetings and took over chairing the Executive Committee meetings.

Laurie has provided countless hours of manual labor in the beautification of many common areas in our community. She has worked closely with Gudie Huffman on many projects, and when Gudie needed to step back a bit, she stepped up to help chair the Special Projects Committee.

General Manager Layne Varney echoed our regret of Laurie’s departure: “I would come to work and see Laurie working in a garden or common area and much later see her again weeding or watering another area. She has spent so much time and effort contributing to our community, yet always remains humble and pleasant.”

We wish Laurie happiness in her new adventures. We are sure she will be welcomed and appreciated in her new community!
