Paullene Caraher
Energy and Functional Yoga classes are held at the SunBird Golf Resort in the Navajo Room, located on the upper level.
Regular yoga
Morning: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, from 7:40 a.m. to 8:50 a.m.
Afternoon: Tuesday and Thursday, from 4 p.m. to 5:10 p.m.
There will be no class on Thanksgiving day.
Energy yoga includes tapping and slapping the body to increase movement of blood and energy through the body. This slapping or tapping is an ancient martial arts method of getting the energy, or qi, flowing through the body. We do this at the beginning of most classes. It is a good practice for you to do at home to wake up your body and spirit.
Functional yoga means each pose is done to enhance a specific function of the body—to strengthen a muscle, to build the bones, to activate the myofascial tissue, or to activate and restore joint movement and thereby feel more energetic and move without pain. The feet are the foundation of the skeletal system, and the hips are the stabilizers. Correct posture is necessary to have the bones, muscles, and internal organs function in an optimal manner. The goal is not to be super flexible but enough to enjoy life with activities you find fun. Some like dancing, playing golf, driving, hiking, swimming, and others like tennis, tai chi, yoga, and walking the dog.

Nidra yoga is done on the second Tuesday for the morning class. This is a relaxing and meditative practice to relieve stress. Either lie down or relax in a chair, and listen to Paullene’s voice as your body relaxes and your mind is guided into a restful state of consciousness and awareness. This gives the cells a chance to recuperate while you are quieting the mind.
Remember, new participants are welcome. It’s easy to follow along feeling the camaraderie of shared yoga energy. Bring a donation and a mat—mats are available in the room.
