Emergency procedures at the clubhouse in the event of a power failure

SunBird Administration has been working on an Emergency Procedure System in the event of a power failure at the clubhouse. General Manager Layne Varney and Patrol Chief Tom Catri attended a seminar by Salt River Project this last year. Since that time, the staff and volunteers at SunBird have been working on implementing safety procedures. In the fall of 2017, volunteers participated in a mock power-failure trial run at the clubhouse.

Should there be a power failure at SunBird, volunteers and patrol will be notified by SRP. They will come to the clubhouse and will check the building to make sure all residents and visitors are helped in exiting the building. People will be encouraged to return to their homes. All rooms will be checked to make sure they are vacant and that no one needs assistance. If power goes out during evening hours, the clubhouse will be locked and closed until the next day.

In 2017, a system was installed in the elevator so that in the event of a power failure, the elevator will slowly descend to the bottom floor to allow persons to exit. At that point, the elevator will be out of service until power resumes.

The two swimming pools on the property will be checked, and the gates will be locked until power resumes. The laundry room will also be locked.

Hopefully, there will not be a need to implement emergency procedures; however, we continue to work to keep SunBird residents and visitors safe.
