Canadians Head Home

Wes Akerman

After another fun-filled winter enjoying SunBird’s many amenities, we prepare to begin the trek north to our “home and native land.” By law, we are only allowed to be out of Canada for about 180 days, and the time is up for many of us.

The Canadian Club continues to financially support the SunBird community with yearly donations. This year, we donated $1,430 for the purchase of seven ball washers for the golf course. This follows last year’s donation of $500 toward the new refrigerators on the patio.

Our annual pork loin BBQ in February was an outstanding success with 160 Canadians enjoying songs, trivia, and a good chin wag with their fellow countrymen and women.

Our final events included the Canadian Golf Tournament on March 15th and the ever popular Conley Cup on March 27, through 29. This a Ryder Cup format where Canadians are matched against the perennially winning team of Americans.

We would like to express our gratitude to our many American friends and neighbours for once again welcoming us in SunBird. The HOA staff, headed by Layne Varney and supported by the office staff, as well as John and Joe and their staff make our lives here very enjoyable.

Everything about our compound is first rate, which is the reason why we continue to make our trek south every winter. Thank you, all.
