Like the inevitable flocks of Canada geese, the SunBird Canadians are returning to their winter homes. Whether we are escaping the cold, the rain or the snow, we so look forward to the sunshine, clear blue skies and the warmth of the Valley of the Sun.
When asked what SunBird was like, Terry the Wolf said, “It’s summer camp.” The weather is one thing, but the warmth shown by all our neighbours, both American and Canadian, is what keeps us coming back.
Special events, as in past years, include the annual CRAB golf tournament on November 18 where the Canadians test their skills against the Roadrunners, Americans and Bandits. The sign-up sheet will be in the Pro Shop by October 31.
This is closely followed by the Grey Cup game and social on November 26 in the ballroom. The cost is $5 to watch the game on the 12-foot screen and includes burgers at halftime. It is always exciting to see the West take on the East and to reconnect after a summer back home.
The pork loin BBQ on February 8 will be on the patio, as usual. Our wind-up is the Great Canadian Golf Tournament on March 18 (not March 8, as previously reported).
We are ready for another fun-filled “summer camp” in SunBird.
