Bocce is going strong at SunBird! December hosted a fantastic ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the construction of our two new permanent courts. The picnic area with sun shade soon followed, and the complete bocce ball recreation area is now a wonderful amenity at SunBird.
January kicked off the first annual Bocce Ball Marathon with amazing participation. Thirty-one two-person teams are competing for prizes and bragging rights as SunBird’s best bocce players. Competition is fierce and fun with both experienced players and novices learning and enjoying the game. Standings for the marathon will be posted on the bulletin board at the court and in the puzzle room. If you see the courts in use, stop by to learn about the game and cheer on your neighbors.
The 2017 Bocce Ball Marathon will end with a party and playoff for the ultimate winner. That event will be held on Sunday, March 26, at 2:00 p.m. All SunBird residents are welcome. Join us to cheer on your favorite team.
The court is located at the intersection of Championship Drive and Kerby Farms Road. The court may be used from 8:00 a.m to 7:00 p.m by all SunBird residents and their guests. The bocce ball equipment is in the storage bench on the south side of the court. There is no vehicle parking on Championship Drive, so we encourage everyone to use golf carts or bicycles and park those on the designated gravel areas. To accommodate our close neighbors, please keep your celebrating down and the area free of debris.
