Please join us for a presentation to discuss the topic, Aging as Vocation: Virtues through an Augustinian Lens, sponsored by Benedictine University at Mesa under the direction of Dr. Ramon Luzarraga, Assistant Professor and Department Chair of Theology, in partnership with Americare Hospice and Palliative Care, Catholic Mission Coordinator Bobi Martinez.
The presenter will be Dr. Autumn Alcott Ridenour who will discuss the rich theological account of aging by turning to Christian tradition, particularly the theology of St. Augustine. She explores the virtues of aging which include humility, gratitude, generosity, wisdom, prudence, memory, fortitude, hope and also virtues for communities surrounding aging persons that entail respect, justice, friendship, mercy and love.
Dr. Ridenour is an assistant professor of theology at Merrimack College in Massachusetts. She completed her Ph.D. in Theological Ethics at Boston College, defending her dissertation entitled “Union with Christ for the Aging: A Consideration of Aging and Death in the Theology of St. Augustine and Karl Barth.” Ridenour’s research includes the theologies of St. Augustine, Karl Barth, Christology, virtue, medical and bioethics, political ethics, and aging.
All are invited to join us at St. Steven’s Church in the Fitzpatrick Center Great Hall on Thursday, September 24 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Admission is free with refreshments to be served. Interested attendees may receive one credit toward recertification through the Kino Institute as a teacher or lay minister in the Diocese of Phoenix.
