“Life as a U.S. Ambassador—More Than a Walk on the Beach” is the title of the talk at this year’s P.E.O. Coffee. Our speaker will share stories about ways to get the life you want. Our speaker will be Mary E. Kramer, former Iowa State Senator and President of the Senate as well as the former U.S. Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean. She currently serves as the Chair of the Des Moines Performing Arts Board of Directors and the Iowa Public Radio Board. She is also the immediate past Chair of the Iowa Public Television Foundation. Ambassador Kramer has served on many boards and commissions in the Des Moines, Iowa, area. In 2009, she was inducted into the Iowa Women’s Hall of Fame, and in 2015 she was honored as a Distinguished Alumni of the University of Iowa.
Ambassador Kramer is also an author. Her first book, More Than a Walk on the Beach, was published in the fall of 2010. Her second book, An Unlikely Diplomat and Her Diplomatic Daughter; Stories and Recipes for the Life You Want, is her newest publication. She is in demand as a public speaker focusing primarily on sharing her books, civility in public discourse; How Did We Get so Rude? and leadership skills; Personal Leadership; It Only Requires Practice.
The coffee will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 8, in the Navajo Room of Sun Lakes Country Club. The cost is $3:00, and no reservations are required.
P.E.O. is a philanthropic organization of women supporting women’s education. This support is given through scholarships, grants, loans and stewardship of Cottey College to motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations.
