American/Italian Club news

Frank Nechvatal

Our Christmas Luncheon at Floridino’s Restaurant was a great success. Twenty-nine members attended, and we enjoyed a buffet of salad, rolls, penne pasta with marinara and penne with alfredo sauce. For dessert, there was a choice of vanilla ice cream or spumoni. We were led in singing by Chris Nechvatal “Domenic, the Christmas Donkey.” Santa uses Domenic in Italy because the reindeer can climb those Italian hills. We closed with a “White Elephant” Christmas exchange.

At our January meeting, we had a guest speaker, Anthony Contrabasso, an instructor and speaker in the area of American History. It was a most interesting presentation. As we move forward, we are planning a Trivia Night for the February meeting. James Gascoyne, SunBird’s Trivia Guru, is scheduled to run the contest. So, members, get your trivia teams together for that evening.

Soon we will begin Lent, and for those of us who are Catholics, we will enter the period of fasting, beginning with Ash Wednesday through Easter Sunday.
