The first meeting of the Irish Club was held on Thursday, Nov. 4, on the clubhouse patio. Our new president, Val Bongiomo, opened the meeting with the pledge to the flag, then introduced himself to the members and welcomed new members. Our new officers and committee chairpersons were introduced.
The board has been working on updating the bylaws and presented the new, revised edition to the members to be read and approved at the December meeting.
Ray Simone gave a recap of the newspaper deliveries, thanked the volunteers for delivering the papers, and said that the undertaking went very well.
On Saturday, Dec. 11, our Christmas dinner will be served. This year, we will have dinner in the Horizon Room unless we have more than 90 guests. Then we will use the ballroom. The social hour begins at 5 p.m., and dinner follows at 5:30 p.m. The menu is Honey Baked ham and the trimmings. The cost is $23 per person, which includes the tip. The table centerpieces will be given away, and the 50/50 drawing will be divided between two members!
Dirk Close volunteered to take charge of the annual toy drive for Hartford School students. New, unwrapped gifts for the children will be collected at the December meeting. There will be a box in the clubhouse lobby for the gifts and also boxes for St. Mary’s Food Bank and the Salvation Army’s donations of white socks for the homeless.
Dirk also is in charge of the printing and selling of tickets for the Christmas dinner. He will be asking for volunteers to sell tickets at a later date. There will be more information available as soon as plans are completed for the dinner.
Winners of the 50/50 raffle were Deanna Calvert and President Val. They each won $66. Jan Habermehl won $41 in the dollar game.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:40 p.m., followed by pizza and cookies.
It was so good to see everyone again after the COVID-19 pandemic last year. A huge thank you to the new officers, committee chairs, and volunteers.
Merry Christmas to all of our members!
