American/German Club Recap

Frank Nechvatal

The German Club had their annual Oktoberfest celebration at the October meeting. The club purchased brats and buns and potato salad for the event. The brats were prepared by Trish DeFlieze. Our Tyrolean hats off to Trish and Gunter for cooking the bratwurst. Club members brought side dishes as part of a potluck feast, and feast we did on the brats, hot German potato salad made by Treva, the corn pudding by Barb, the sauerkraut by Mary, and desserts by other members. Our thanks to all who contributed to this great event and good time.

At our November meeting, we planned our Christmas Party, which will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 14, at 6 p.m. in the Pima Room. Our planned dinner will be made by our Horizon Room staff under the direction Of Joe Turko, the new manager. Our menu is salad followed by Chicken Schnitzel with mashed potatoes and gravy, along with mixed veggies. Coffee, tea, or soft drinks will be included with the meal. Club members will be charged $10, and the club will pick up the difference. Guests of members will be charged the full $17. Dessert will end the dinner, and the club will sing Christmas carols and talk about German Christmas traditions.

Reservations were taken at the meeting. If you did not attend the meeting and want to make a reservation for the party, you must call Barb Valentine at 480-883-8251, or Frank Nechvatal at 480-883-9262 no later than Dec. 7. Remember, there is a $10 charge for members and a $17 charge for guests.

The German Club is open to SunBird residents interested in German heritage and who enjoy the club camaraderie and shared goodies at the end of the business portion of the meetings. Membership costs $10.
