The German Club held their Oktoberfest Celebration and Potluck Dinner on Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. in the Lakeview Room. The club provided the brats, buns, and potato salad. Members brought in side dishes and desserts.
Oktoberfest began with the marriage of Bavaria’s Crown Prince Ludwig to Therese Saxe-Hildburghausen on Oct. 12, 1810. The celebration was so well liked that the people decided to celebrate this event yearly over a two-week period. This Volksfest became so popular that today it is the largest festival of its kind and is emulated around the globe.
The German Club meets on the fourth Thursday of the month, September through April. We meet at 6 p.m. in the Lakeview Room. Following the business meeting, we share desserts and other goodies. Any SunBird resident who may be interested is kindly invited to attend and check us out.
Members’ dues will be collected starting with the October meeting. Dues are $10 per member.
Starting next month, we will publish interesting news about the various states in Germany. Stay tuned.
Auf wiedersehen
