April is here, and the SunBird Art Club has been busy. The major event of the year, the annual Art and Fine Crafts Show, has come and gone. We had a great turnout of artists, both from the SunBird Art Club and other local artists, displaying their work. We will relax for a bit then begin preparations for next year’s event.
Some of our artists have left or will be leaving soon for the summer, but the Art Club remains active through the summer with a smaller group of motivated artists. We will be working on scheduling creative activities for the year-round members as well as planning activities, classes, and workshops for the fall and winter. March included a Still Life Challenge for members. We set up a Still Life display, and over the next two weeks, artists completed their interpretation in their own style and medium. It was exciting to see all of the different versions of the same subject. The resulting paintings were on display in the Art Club display case from March 6 through March 21.
Art Club members will soon be showing off their new Tie Dye Artist aprons, embroidered by Art Club member Barb Rowland. Seeing so much tie dye in the same room will be kind of “groovy.”
Contact sunbirdartclub1@gmail.com for information about joining the Art Club. Both SunBird residents and other local artists are welcome. We meet every Friday in the Hopi Room at the SunBird clubhouse for planned activities or just Open Studio. Unleash your creativity with other artists and share your expertise, or take advantage of other artists’ expertise. All levels of artists in all mediums are welcome. We have some exciting plans for the summer! Lunch is available at the Horizon Room restaurant on Fridays.
