Manager’s Report

This has been another fun-filled, memorable season at SunBird. By far the most active and busiest time than any other previous year. SunBird is the happening place to be! Driving towards the clubhouse from Championship Drive along SunBird Boulevard, one can see golfers playing on the course; pickleball and tennis players in a competitive, fun rally on the sport courts; shuffleboard players sliding the pucks along the courts; and people exercising and having fun in the swimming pool. Entering into the clubhouse, one can find people playing a fun game of billiards, or in the ballroom a large gathering of people playing bean bag baseball or a group enjoying a banquet with good food or hearing the music of the SunBird Singers and Ringers rehearsing. The large outdoor covered patio is used often with groups eating and enjoying the good weather. Approaching the very well-stocked and organized library, one will notice the Art Club’s creative display case of various paintings and artwork by our very own residents. On the other side of the hall, you can see containers of fresh citrus picked by volunteers from several homes in SunBird for anyone to take. In that same room, the display of posters can be seen advertising the many fun upcoming events and activities. Walking by the Puzzle Room, one can see people hard at work completing the challenging puzzles every day. A little further, a stream of people can be seen checking in and out of the Pro Shop to play a round of golf. Reaching the upper level of the clubhouse, one will notice various activities in the Navajo Room of chair aerobics, yoga, cards, ping pong, and other fun events. Across the hall are two display cases full of colorful ceramics and pottery and the unique lapidary displays of acrylics, jewelry, and various rock artwork. In both the Lapidary and Ceramics Rooms, residents are always working intently on some sort of project. On the other side of the hall, the Sunny Quilters have a display highlighting one of their many beautiful quilts. Cards and games are usually in process in the final two rooms of that hall. The last room on the upper floor is the Horizon Room restaurant, which has had a great start to the year after the two previous years’ record-breaking sales, and is on track to exceed these records again. The great food and service has been key to this success, as many have shared these comments. Looking out the windows or stepping onto the balcony of the Horizon Room is a beautiful view of the San Tan Mountains and our wonderful community. Reaching the lower level of the clubhouse is the adequately equipped Fitness Room with treadmill, exercise equipment, dumbbell weights, and yoga balls that residents routinely use for exercising and staying in shape. Definitely a good place to live.

This summer, SunBird has several projects planned to maintain and improve the facilities. The sections of roads that were slurry sealed last year, the sections with the 1/4-inch material, will have additional work as normal routine following this type of application. These areas will receive a seal coating, which completes the previous treatment and extends the life of these roads. This work will be scheduled this summer, and notice will be provided by eblast and the SunBird website in advance.

The clubhouse has more than 20 air conditioners to service and keep the rooms a comfortable temperature for all to enjoy. Several of the clubhouse air conditioners are scheduled for servicing, updating, and/or replacement this summer. The multiphase project of changing out the many clubhouse single-paned windows continues. The main lobby area will have the windows replaced with dual-paned glass for updating and efficiency. Most of the sinks in the multipurpose rooms will be updated with new plumbing for better improved maintenance and operation. Lighting along the main floor will be updated with new LED lights for better lighting, energy savings, and an overall better look to the clubhouse. The ballroom hardwood floor will be stripped, treated, and resealed. Other various projects of painting, deck work, and other maintenance projects will be attended to throughout the summer months at the clubhouse.

SunBird wouldn’t be SunBird without the people. All of these activities and events couldn’t have been successful without the many clubs, groups, and staff working together. We want to express our appreciation to all those who assisted, organized, marketed, sold tickets, set up, operated, and cleaned up after each of these events. Working together keeps SunBird an active and fun community.
